Hello Blog

I was feeling uninspired and kind of depressed on my drive home from work. It was another late day, yet I still feel like nothing has been completed, just to get in my car and sit in traffic, to come home hungry and exhausted. This is definitely not how I want to live the rest of my life. I need something exciting in my life. Anything!

I'm thinking maybe a class (I've always been interested in print making, book making, dance?). Or maybe bringing back the idea of having an Etsy shop? I have yarn, and craft supplies, and ... I want to be doing something that makes me happy on a regular basis, and while I'm a generally happy person, I don't feel I have something like that. Something that excites me. Right now about all I've got is kickball once a week, and just wrapping a baby shower gift the other day was the most creative and exciting thing I'd done (I was probably a little too proud of it).

I was talking to my boyfriend the other night, and the question came up: What would I do if I could do anything? I recalled that when I was younger I remember wanting to be an author - a children's book author. I know I've mentioned writing a book in jest before, but if I actually had a story I wanted to tell and the talent to draw it, that certainly would be a great job. I feel like maybe sitting down and at least trying my hand at it one more time would be worth the time (and yes, I've tried to do comics/illustrated books before but always give up because, to be honest, my drawings are really hit or miss).

On that note, I feel like I should take this opportunity to put up something I'm happy with, instead of just ranting about how I decided today that my life sucks. I have a small collection of drawings pulled from various work notebooks and agendas and client information sheets that I've saved because I think they're not too shabby or cute or fun. So I'm scanning them in and sharing them.

Diet?!

A totally weird thing just happened to me at work: I came in late due
to a little car issue. My coworker stopped by my office a little later
just to say hi. I mentioned I was hungry, because I hadn't eaten
anything all day yet (because I was busy with the car). She asked "Oh,
are you on a diet?"

Is that normal? Is that what a diet is to most women? You just don't
eat, or starve yourself in one way or another? WTF?! And it only
struck me just now while writing this...Why would I even be on a diet?
What kind of question is that to ask someone?

Women in the world today are crazy.

I've tried explaining this before, but all I get is that it sounds like he has a mouth full of spit. Which really doesn't sound sexy at all. But I really enjoy the way he sings. I listened to their discography all day long at work.

I think they are a great band - I love the lush sounds and the melodies. Drummer (among other things) Pat Spurgeon has a documentary film coming out soon about his time on the road dealing with kidney failure. So I thought I would share:

Food, glorious food!

Whenever I get excited about food (which is often) I think of that scene in Extras when that poor girl sings "Food, glorious food!" and her dad berates her about singing "custard" wrong. I wish I could find that clip, but the original song will have to suffice.

Yesterday I decided I need to use the food I had sitting around in the fridge, before I let it go bad like a few other things in there. I bought a bunch of celery last week. I'm sure I had plans for it but I don't know what. So last night I made myself celery soup. I got the basic idea from this recipe, but I just used what I had. No added cream, no celery root, red potato, etc. It turned out pretty tasty, and because I was kinda bored, I documented the creation in photos:

And last, but not least, the tasty final product:

Now, that I have that settled, I have all sorts of plans for today, including searching for wedding shoes, going to Dixieline Lumber (I have handy home decoration projects in mind), and then to Henry's.

I'm collecting recipes now because I would like to do a mass amount of cooking this afternoon/evening, leaving the rest of my week free to be totally lazy. And I've been craving MaPo Dofu lately - I know I haven't had it since leaving San Francisco and that's now been over a year! - so that will be first on my list. Yay food!

Boredom => Creation

So work is ok and all, but some days when it gets really slow in the office...this happens:

I was doodling and made a moustache. So I had to build a face. But I ran out of room, and so I started drawing some hats to cover the misshapen form of his head.

The first one was too small. The second one was too big. I moved onto his need for a toupee. The first one was a little short on hair. But this one, this one is just right.

I wanted to share him with my coworker, Carlos. Usually I just throw it over the top of the cube, but since he had two pieces and was no longer attached to the page (I cut him out with my swiss army knife scissors) I came up with the brilliant idea of attaching him and his toupee to a pencil. Soon I'll be adding a body so I can make him dance at the top of the cube whenever Carlos is bored :)

I also sent over a drawing of Carlos "pompading"* his hair, but that one is for him to keep.

Carlos and I also decided today that we will be going into business together very soon, and we will become rich. I can't give away too many details, but it will be a book that he is writing and I am illustrating. And it's about a little boy named Dick...

*pompading is the act of coiffing one's hair into a pompadour. Something Carlos vows never to do...but he will make up verbs about it.

Blogs are cool, right?

I have an issue with blogging. I think it sounds good, but then I'm embarrassed and don't know if I want people reading about my life. And what a big dork I am.

But eff it. I am what I am.

I'm about to upload some photos. I'll be back.

If I blog more than 3 times this year I will beat last year...
